“She lived greatly very humble but very greatly is safety in our community then whenever there was this put on any issue that required mediation however tough or hard it might be when my mother is called upon and she goes in there there is a solution.

Everybody regarded and referred to her as a solution provider whenever there was any dispute and they so much accorded her respect and love for that.

“She brought us up in a very virtuous way, she taught us how to be contented with the little or the much we have, she taught us how to be patient and prayerful.

”She taught us how to respect elders because she gave birth to me in a miraculous way because the gap between myself and my next sister is over 10 years nobody would ever imagine that she would have me any longer.

BREAKING: WAEC postpones school WASSCE over COViD-19.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has postponed the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, 2020 indefinitely.

In a statement, WAEC Nigeria’s Head of National Office, Mr. Patrick Ehidiamen Areghan, said the examination scheduled to begin April 6, 2020 in member countries, was postponed as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement reads in part: “The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Nigeria, nay, the West African sub-region, has decided to put on hold the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination

(WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2020, earlier scheduled to commence on April 6, 2020.

“This is as a result of the impact of the novel and deadly Corona Virus pandemic (COVID-19) and the serious implications it has for the conduct of the WASSCE for school candidates, 2020, coupled with the anxieties it has generated among the populace.

“This decision is a demonstration of the organisation’s concern and support for the various protocols being put in place by the Federal and State Governments of Nigeria and the governments of the other member countries to check the spread of the disease.

Areghan said the timetable for the examination had been suspended and would be “reviewed once the health situation improves.”

Why I was absent from Taraba for 87 days – Governor Darius Ishiaku.

The governor of Taraba State, Ishiaku DariusThe governor of Taraba State, Ishiaku Darius

The governor of Taraba State, Ishiaku Darius, on Thursday, explained why he was absent from his State for about three months.

Mr Darius, who showed up in Jalingo, the state capital, for the first time in 87 days, said his absence was based on health grounds.

The governor said he had broken his leg after a fall he had in his home.

He said he had been on medication ever since until doctors advised that he could travel. He said he is yet to fully recover.

Mr Darius, whose return coincides with the coronavirus pandemic in the country, also used the moment to advise people on safety measures.

He implored the people of the state to avoid handshakes and “unnecessary movement’ in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

Mr Darius, serving his second term as Taraba governor, has not been in the state since December 22, 2019, when he practically moved the seat of government to Abuja, the federal capital from where administer the state.

He said his almost three months stay in Abuja was based on the advice of his doctors. He also said that his 87 days’ absence from the state had not crippled the business of governance.

“I had an accident in the house. I fell off from a staircase and broke my legs.

“But I did not know, so I had to go for surgery. Then, I came back to recover from the injuries.

“And there were speculations: some said I am dead; some said I am crippled; some said I am vegetable.

“You are seeing me talking today, not that I have recovered fully but my doctor said I can travel today. That is why I have returned.”

Mr Darius thanked his deputy for standing in for him, as well as the confidence vote passed on him by the state assembly.

The opposition lawmakers had once moved to impeach the governor, who was immediately saved by the members of the ruling party who passed a vote of confidence in his administration.

How power failure made me fall off the staircase

Governor Darius had during a question and answer with journalists said he got his leg injury during a power outage while he was running up a staircase in his home.

He said the injury demanded an urgent surgery that was successful but he has to remain bedridden for a gradual recovery process.

He said governance was not paralysed in Taraba due to his absence.

“It is not true that nothing was working during my absence, ” he said.

“I was getting reports every day about what was going on in the state, and everything was working correctly, in spite of my absence.

“I want all Nigerians to note that we are all humans -that I am a governor does not make me super-human.

“I made a mistake of running upstairs at my house around 8 p.m. Then they took the light. I fell and rolled down and that created a crisis for me, which I never anticipated.

“Now, all of us are like that. An accident can happen to anybody at anytime, anywhere. So, when you glorify it and start singing music about it, it doesn’t help you.

“I want to assure the people of Taraba State that I am healing very well and nothing will stop moving in the state. The Rescue Agenda is ongoing,” Ishaku said.

On COVID – 19 situation in the state, Mr Darius said, “The state government had set up isolation centers at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo and the Specialist Hospital Jalingo in case of an outbreak of the disease in the state.”

Coronavirus: Nigeria Football Federation bans all soccer activities, including ‘monkey post’

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, late Wednesday in Abuja announced the cessation of all forms of football activities in the country for the next four weeks.

Ademola Olajire, the NFF director spokesman, in a statement said the shutdown was “as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic’’.

He said the shutdown affected all on-field activities involving the various national teams, the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, the other leagues, youth football programmes and even street football known in local parlance as “monkey post”.

Mr Olajire quoted the NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, as saying “the cessation will be for four weeks, after which the situation will be reviewed in line with events and trends worldwide’’.

The NFF president was also quoted as advising all members of the football family to observe the various safety precautions and conduct as advised.

“They should observe the precautions as advised by the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), such as hand-washing, the use of sanitisers and social distancing.’’

Mr Pinnick was further quoted as saying the only football activity that would be permitted was the work of the NFF investigation committee into the death of Chineme Martins.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the committee was inaugurated on Tuesday in Benin City and is expected to submit its report within the next 10 days.

Meanwhile, the ongoing 2019/2020 NPFL has been suspended till further notice in line with global health preventive protocol against the coronavirus disease, ostensibly in line with NFF’s directive.

“The decision is to conform with the guidelines for containment of the spread of the global pandemic,’’ the LMC, who are the organisers of NPFL, said in a statement on Wednesday.

The LMC, in suspending the league’s remaining matches, said it would review the decision after consulting the nation’s health authorities, such as the Federal Ministry of Health and NCDC.

NAN reports that Match Day 25 fixtures in the 2019/2020 NPFL were concluded on Wednesday.

The betrayal, hypocrisy against Sanusi.

By Imam Murtadha Gusau

Dear brothers and sisters, On Monday, 09/03/ 2020, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State finally mustered the courage to do what he had been planning against His Highness, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II for almost three years: He dethroned the 14th Emir of Kano, His Highness, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi ll.

As Muslims, we accept this as a fate just as predestination is a necessary factor in the Islamic faith. In Islam, predestination or fate means that Allah is the one who has destined everything that is happening in this universe (to human beings and everything). Allah knows what is happening or what will happen in the earth and in heaven. Nothing can happen without the knowledge of Allah. Therefore, we all should have the firm believe in predestination in order to have good faith. His Highness, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II departure from the Throne of Kano, was predictable from his very beginning and from the moment he ascended the throne.

But with all these, what we need the world to understand is that, His Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi has been betrayed and deceived by the hypocrites, those who don’t mean well for the north and Nigeria in General.

Let the betrayers and hypocrites understand that they can only take the throne away from His Highness, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, but they cannot take away his royalty in the community of decent humans.

And one of the soul’s defects that brutally affects our ties with our Creator (Allah) as well as our relationships with others is betrayal and hypocrisy. Betraying is an unfaithful act characterised by deliberate but hidden deceiving, lying and scheming. Because of the intentional secretive planning that is involved in betrayal, its victims are always taken by surprise. The most harmful consequence of betraying is the sudden and abrupt destruction of the bond of trust, loyalty, and confidence that exists in different kinds of social relations. This results in a deep sense of disappointment and serious damage to the integrity of such relationships. Allah the Almighty says:

“O you who believe, do not betray Allah and the Messenger, and do not betray those who trust you, now that you know.” [Qur’an, 8:27]

Students of the Qur’an know that all the elements which might be involved in the ugly course of betrayal are clearly highlighted as prohibited bad behaviour and immorality, and therefore condemned by Allah. Allah the Most High says:

“All bad behaviour is condemned by your Lord.” [Qur’an, 17:38]

And He the Almighty says:
“Those who love to see immorality (or evil) spread among the believers have incurred a painful retribution in this life and in the Hereafter. Allah knows, while you do not know.” [Qur’an, 24:19]
Respected servants of Allah, the elements of betrayal might be summarised as:
– Cheating, hypocrisy, and breaking the promises.

Allah the Most High says:”Do not cheat the people out of their rights, and do not roam the earth corruptingly.” [Qur’an, 26:183]

And He says: “O you who believe, you shall reverence Allah, and be among the truthful.” [Qur’an, 9:119]

Beloved servants of Allah, how do we save ourselves?
The best way to avoid being a hypocrite is to ask yourself why you are doing a certain good deed. If, for example, you are praying in a Mosque, sincerely ask yourself, “Why am I praying here in this Mosque?” If the honest answer is “To please Allah the Almighty” or “To receive Allah’s forgiveness for my sins,” then you are doing it for the right reasons.

If you find that you are there because you want someone to see that you are a good Muslim who prays in the Mosque, you need to get this out of your heart.

Having the proper intentions is the most important aspect of our actions. If our deeds are for anyone other than Allah the Almighty, or for Allah the Most High and someone else, He will reject them and there will be no reward for them, no matter how great the deeds.

Dear brothers and sisters, bare in mind being in a state of hypocrisy is really far worse than being a non-believer. At least non-believers are upfront about not believing in the message of Islam. Their position is clear and we know where we stand with them, what to expect from them.

Hypocrites, on the other hand, are not upfront and do not reveal what is in their heart. They pretend to be believers when in the company of Muslims, but when they retire to their intimate friends, they show their true colours.

Beloved servants of Allah, here I add in my today’s sermon the translation of a beautiful poem titled, ‘YOU WILL REMAIN THE PRINCE OF HEARTS’, composed by Professor Isa Alabi Abu Bakr, one of the best contemporary Arabic poets in Nigeria, in solidarity to the Prince of hearts, the deposed Emir of Kano, His Highness, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, may Allah continue to protect him, Ameen. The poem is as follows:
“Severe grief in the gasket flames And the heart is heartbreaking. The world of betrayal has revealed its command.

For flattering temptation shall be avoided
He tempted people who reigned as king
In both worlds and in the end, it is malfunctioned
What does hair say after their error?
And he sees the draft in the country being tortured?
The supplication of righteousness is a crime
When the tyrants are good and do not like
They made hypocrisy a virtue in their religion
So you see a great wreck being dislodged
They have disappointed the exhausted people’s hopes
He asked to be saved, and his fanatics were fanatic
Do not accept what came out of their mouths
They always make a comeback
This country is honest, but they are honest
They have wasted it and the deposit has been destroyed
Stripping the glory of glorified slogans
They have the deed of treachery
Al-Sanusi’s isolation made us worse and hurt us
Bring the complainant and the smuggler to you
The king of kings with his knowledge and intelligence
South and West listen to him
The joy of being mean to see you bound
In isolation, your sun will think of the west.
The sun of knowledge and science is illuminated
And Ma’in who provided the Hajj is not depleted
They envy you that you are loved in the country
Envy will inflame its anger
Glory be to He who gave you what loves the most
Mind and tongue, so let the one who gets angry
The person who loves you the most is hard-pressed
I blame those who say you are blindfolded
I praise you and the Principality is outraged
Today I curse what went wrong and love
The emirate cried that its protector tomorrow
In the hands of the tyrants get what is not disturbed
Trust in God, and he is appointed by whom
Please do well in difficult circumstances
You will remain proud of the prince of our hearts
May your Lord protect you from the evil of those who receive it.”

Dear brothers and sisters, I ask Allah to purify our hearts from betraying and hypocrisy of all types and to lead us all to what pleases Him alone. Ameen.

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. May the peace, blessings and salutations of Allah be upon our noble Messenger, Muhammad, and upon his family, his Companions and his true followers.

UTME ends next week, not April 4, says JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has adjusted the dates of the completion of the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination, saying the exercise would end “in the early days of next week” as against Saturday, April 4, on the schedule.

JAMB said the move was to address the public panic over the coronavirus scare whereby schools and other public places were shutting down across the country.

The JAMB Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in a statement on Thursday, confirmed the new dates, saying a large proportion of the total 1.9million candidates who registered had been attended to and only few centres in Rivers and Bayelsa states had till next week to finish the examination.

He said, “The board has not rescheduled its examination as being speculated. All examination will be finishing on Saturday with only few centres in Bayelsa and Rivers who will be writing in the early days of next week.

“The board in its determined efforts to give the candidates the best has adjusted the schedules of the remaining candidates in these two states. We have also contacted the few candidates to reprint their slips.

It’s not a general thing as it is being rumoured.”

IT BLEW UP IN THEIR FACES BY SPECIAL ADVISER TO PRESIDENT BUHARI ON MEDIA ANS PUBLICITY.

president buhari and others in Kebbi state

President Muhammadu Buhari was in Argungu, Kebbi State, on Thursday last week to attend the fishing and cultural festival, which that town is famous for.
Prior to this year’s event, the festival had not held for 11 years, due to the insecurity that had suffused a large part of the Northern states. But a ray of hope is being seen on the security horizon. Peace is gradually returning, and the Kebbi State government decided to revive the festival.
The President attended, and all went well. Very well. Till those who do not want the country well waded in with their contortionist act, in which they twist everything to give a negative perspective.
Nigeria had what was called groundnut pyramids in the pre-oil boom era. Agriculture was the king then. But when we started earning petroleum-dollars, the pyramids vanished. But since his advent in 2015, President Buhari had redirected the country back to agriculture. Now, new pyramids are emerging. Of rice, maize, beans, and other grains.
A group photograph was to be taken with some governors and farmers during the festival, with thousands of bags of rice as background. That was when something dramatic happened.
The line was formed, the photographers were clicking away, when a phantom emerged from nowhere. In complete breach of protocol and security, a young man had meandered his way in, and went straight in the direction of the President, with his hand outstretched in greeting.
Of course, it would not happen. Not in Nigeria, nor in most countries of the world. The intruder was short-circuited, and whisked away for censure and questioning.
The event ended, and we departed for Abuja. In the Presidential aircraft, the intrusion was a point of discussion. The President was completely unperturbed, knowing that the young man meant no harm. The security details said he would still be profiled, so that nothing was ruled out.
By early evening, we were back in Abuja, and went to do other things. Till the social media erupted. Fictive reports, backed with videos of the intruder being checked by security agents, began to fly around, with outlandish headlines: President Buhari escapes attack in Kebbi. President Buhari escapes death in Kebbi. And so on.
The sense of mortification of those of us who were there was great. Was it not what we witnessed, saw with our own very eyes? There was no attempt to attack or harm the President. Rather, an over-excited citizen had wanted to appreciate a man he admired. He broke all protocol and security rules in the process. He was checked. How did it then become an attack?
The story was assuming a life of its own, and people who thrive in chaos and disorder had begun to revel in it. They were hopping from one leg to the other like Rumpelstiltskin, in the fairy tales we read as youngsters. It was time to wade in, and we did. A press statement was issued, explaining what truly happened.
The peddlers of fake and hate news were stopped dead in their tracks. Their lies had blown up in their faces, and they beat a hasty retreat.
The next day, the coffin of their lies was finally nailed. The intruder, Mohammed Jamilu Gunddare, came out to address the media. One newspaper had published the fiction that he was gunned down, and neutralized. He said he was never shot. And neither did he plan to attack the President.
The Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, graduate said he had always been intrigued by the honesty and integrity of President Buhari, and had wanted to express appreciation to him. So he broke all the rules. All he wanted was just a handshake.
Gunddare was wrong in his approach. But why did some people begin to peddle falsehood, concocting what did not happen? Why did they say it was an attack on the President? Very sorry, regrettable, even pitiable. Why are some people so prone to evil imaginations? Was that what they would have loved to see happen to their own President? O ma se o.
Some people passionately hate their country, its leaders, humanity in general, and I believe they even hate themselves. Sadly, some of them go to churches and mosques. If they find no evil report to peddle, they create it themselves. On social media platforms, they are quick to share unsubstantiated negativities. Yet, the Good Book in Exodus 23:1 admonishes us: “Thou shall not take up a false report…thou shall not follow the multitude to do evil.”
After sharing fake, evil reports on Thursday, they went to mosques on Friday, while others went to churches on Sunday, raising their hands in praise and worship. They were merely reporting themselves to God through those uplifted hands.
What would anyone have gained, even if the President was attacked? Why were they celebrating it, licking their lips in frenzy? They are of all men most to be pitied.
And when the lie blew up in their faces, you would think they should be decent enough to retract their posts, and apologize. For where? They simply moved on, as if everything was okay.
At the root of fake news is hatred. Bile. Malice. But why? Can you swallow poison, and expect it to kill your neighbor? It doesn’t happen. Such people must test and examine their ways, and change their hearts and conduct.
I love the comment of my friend and fellow journalist, Fred Chukwuelobe, on the statement we issued, when the contortionists went to town. He said: “Those weaving this ‘attempted attack’ story are not happy the President was unharmed. The best news they’d have loved is that the ‘attacker’ succeeded and harmed or even killed the President. People can weave and wish harm to their fellow citizens, and hate so much and be bold to share and celebrate it. So sad people have lost their sense of reasoning just because of hate.”
Bullseye. On point. Why do people hate their country, their leaders, and even themselves so much? I have nothing but pity for such. President Buhari is in the hands of God, and it has been demonstrated in many ways. Who Jah bless, no man curse. Those are not my words, but of reggae star, Bob Marley.

President Buhari’s daughter on self-isolation after UK trip.

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has announced that her daughter has gone into self-isolation after returning from the United Kingdom.

In a tweet thread on her verified Twitter handle, Aisha Buhari explained that although she (her daughter) wasn’t showing any symptom, it is only important that she did the needful.

“Good afternoon Nigerians, Earlier today my daughter returned from the UK being among the high Burden listed countries of COVID-19.

“Based on the advice of the Hon. Minister Of Health, Presidential Taskforce on COVID – 19 and that of NCDC, She is on Self Isolation, not because she displayed any symptoms of the Covid-19.

“Please I urge all parents to do the same if possible as prevention is better than cure. Similarly, I have shut down my office for two weeks with immediate effect while essential staff can work from home as a result of some Staff who recently returned from the UK.

“I commend the North-Western Governors including Niger and Kwara on preventive measures taken to curb the spread of COVID-19 at their security meeting yesterday in Kaduna.

“Let’s keep following the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC, which encourages maintaining social distancing, high hygiene culture through regular washing of hands with soaps and sanitizers.

“Let’s adopt preventive measures and ensure the safety of our families and that of the General public. We will overcome the Covid-19 pandemic if we all take the necessary precautions at the same time! God bless you all. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Aisha Buhari said.
